The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has inaugurated the newly established Kebbi State Mining Development Agency, making a significant step towards strengthening the state’s revenue base and regulating mining activities.
This is contained in a statement Signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi State Governor and made available to Newsmen on Friday.
The Inauguration ceremony took place on Friday at Gesse Area, Birnin Kebbi, where Governor Idris commended the Director-General of the Agency, Abdullahi Buhari Warrah, for the groundwork already laid toward making the agency operational.
The Governor expressed optimism that the agency would generate more revenue to complement statutory allocation from the Federal Government, noting that the initiative would significantly boost the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
According to him, the Mining Development Agency – the first of its kind in the state is strategically positioned to harness Kebbi State’s vast mineral resources and ensure proper regulation of mining activities.
Gov. Idris explained that the appointment of Buhari Warrah as the pioneer D-G of the agency, was based on his proven capacity and experience in the sector.
“I decided to appoint you as the pioneer D-G because I have confidence in your ability to deliver. You are equal to the task. Your responsibility is to streamline mining activities in the state and ensure efficiency and accountability,” The Governor said.
Earlier, in his remarks, the newly appointed D-G, Kebbi State Mining Development Agency, Abdullahi Buhari Warrah, expressed gratitude to the governor for the trust and confidence reposed in him.
“You are a father and a leader that always has the interest of masses at heart. In Sha Allah, I will put in my best to generate more revenue for the state, and I will not disappoint you,” he pledged.
Buhari Warrah, a former Chairman, Ngaski Local Government and former Special Adviser stated that his administration would leverage his vast experience to bring both legal and illegal mining operators under a unified regulatory framework.
He noted that the move would not only improve revenue generation for the state but also restore sanity and order within the mining sector.
