Journalists in Sokoto State have been called on to ensure thorough fact-checking to avoid spreading misinformation, as the state hosts a workshop on promoting ethical journalism.
The one-day event, organized by the Barrister Mu’azu Liman Yabo Foundation, brought together journalists to discuss key ethical values and the consequences of misinformation.
Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari of Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto highlighted high-risk areas of journalism, including elections, security, and economic reporting.
Murtala Faruk Sanyinna of Voice of America (VOA), emphasized the role of journalists in driving developmental change, stressing that they have a sole responsibility to pursue the goal through creative and critical reporting.
The State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Sambo Bello Danchadi, urged participants to emulate the late Barrister Mu’azu Liman Yabo’s good behaviors and apply their newfound knowledge for the state’s development.
The workshop aimed to equip journalists with the skills to promote truth, accountability, and national development.
