The YALI Network Sokoto on Saturday held its first Alumni Connect at the Flamingo Sports Arena in Sokoto, attracting a large crowd of members and youth leaders who gathered to celebrate and strengthen their network.
The event showcased the talents of young people and emphasized the support youths need in order to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
Speaking at the event, Nurudeen Muhammad Mahe, Special Assistant to the Sokoto State Governor on Communication and Strategy, commended the initiative and encouraged the youth to continue engaging in activities that promote leadership and development.
Mahe further commended the State Coordinator for his efforts in making the event colorful and successful, urging him to sustain the momentum.
“Our support will continue for the new State Coordinator, and I am very proud to see what our youth in the state are becoming,” he said.
In his welcome address, the State Coordinator, Maccido Bello, stated that for over eight years the YALI Network has played a vital role in shaping ideas, improving the lives of young people, and contributing to governance in Sokoto State.
He, however, noted that active participation and engagement remain some of the challenges faced by the organization.
The memorable event not only served as a reunion but also created an opportunity for members to connect with one another, exchange ideas, and explore new opportunities.
Nasiru Murtala Magori, a past coordinator and leader within the organization, commended the organizing committee and charged fellow volunteers to remain committed and steadfast toward achieving the organization’s objectives.
Also speaking, Muhammad Salis urged members not to forget the aims and objectives of the YALI Network.
He emphasized the need for youths in the state to understand their responsibilities as ambassadors of positive change.
“Our youths should have their communities at heart. They should remember that they are agents of change; hence the need to be part of development and not destruction,” he said.
Aisha Abdullahi, another speaker at the event, expressed delight at seeing youths from different political parties coming together, describing it as a positive step forward.
“As an organization, we still have a long way to go. Looking at our social media engagement today, it is not encouraging. Our youths are not doing the needful. I call on the leadership of YALI to look beyond this and see what can be done to shape the mindset of the youth through meaningful programs,” she said.
She added that the platform provides opportunities for young girls to grow and build their capacities.
“Young girls need modesty and integrity as future builders of families and society,” she noted.
She also urged young men to support and protect young girls emotionally and spiritually.
Activities during the Alumni Connect included games, panel discussions, networking sessions, and other interactive engagements aimed at strengthening unity among members.
