Hon. Mansur Umar Kurugu has declared his intention to contest for the Karaye State House of Assembly seat in the 2027 general elections.
He will run under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Kurugu, who serves as the Kwankwasiyya Movement National Spokesperson II, submitted his letter of intent on 16th May 2026 to the Jagora of Karaye Local Government Area.
Kurugu said he has remained loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Movement for nearly two decades. He has served in various capacities at both local government and state caucus levels since 2015.
He previously aspired for the House of Representatives seat for Karaye/Rogo in 2019 and the Karaye LGA Chairmanship in the last local government elections. In both cases, he respected the movement’s consensus decisions.
The aspirant currently serves as the Kano State Public Relations Officer of the Kano Project Protection Association (Kano PRO-PA). He is also the Kwankwasiyya Movement National Spokesperson II.
Kurugu is a pilot by profession with strong grounding in Crew Resource Management. He also has over a decade of grassroots and development experience with national and international organizations.
Kurugu said his aspiration is driven by a commitment to effective representation and inclusive development.
He plans to anchor his work on Kwankwasiyya ideals of people-centred leadership. His focus areas include youth and women empowerment, education, healthcare, and overall community advancement in Karaye constituency.
Kurugu has humbly sought the blessings, support, guidance, and prayers of the Jagora and the movement’s leadership. His declaration adds to the growing list of aspirants eyeing state assembly seats in Kano.
The NDC and Kwankwasiyya Movement are yet to announce their consensus candidates for the 2027 elections.
