BUA Cement Plc has strengthened educational access in its host communities by awarding N40 million in scholarships to 200 students from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
Each beneficiary received N200,000, doubling the previous amount offered under the company’s scholarship initiative.
Launched in 2018 with 100 students receiving N100,000 each, the programme was created to support academic advancement while developing future industry talent.
According to BUA’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, Mohammed Sada, the scheme aligns with government efforts to uplift education and nurture young people who can contribute to national and corporate growth.
“Our goal is to help these young scholars achieve their academic dreams and make meaningful contributions to society,” he said.
Representing the Managing Director/CEO, Plant Director Engr. Aminu Bashir explained that the selection process was transparent and merit-based, with 50 students chosen from each of the three host states and an additional 50 from Wamakko LGA, the company’s immediate host community.
Commending the initiative, Professor Rashida Usman, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Scholarship Board, emphasized that the gesture underscores the value of sustained investment in education.
Similarly, the Sokoto State Special Adviser on CSR, Usman Arzika Fako, noted that empowering students is essential for long-term development.
Community leaders also urged BUA to increase local participation in its workforce, with the District Head of Arkila, Aliyu Hassan, calling for at least 50% of staff to be recruited from host communities.
Beneficiaries praised BUA Cement, describing the company as “a pillar of hope for future generations.”
The expanded scholarship initiative highlights BUA Cement’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and demonstrates the growing role of private-sector support in improving education across northern Nigeria.
