Waziri of Gwandu Abdullahi Umar, Emerges National Chairman of SBMC

The Waziri of Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, has been elected as the National Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC).

Wazirin Gwandu is one of the most influential traditional rulers in Kebbi State and has been a strong advocate for education and healthcare development.

He has played a key role in championing education and health initiatives in the state, including spearheading several United Nations–supported intervention projects.

In his New Year message as National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar stated: “As we step into 2026, the NSBMC celebrates the visionary leadership and synergy between the Presidency and our educational architects.

May our collective efforts continue to fortify the foundations of a prosperous and enlightened Nigeria.”

He noted that the establishment of the National SBMC body at this critical moment offers renewed hope that a truly community-driven school system is achievable in Nigeria.

Wazirin Gwandu assured stakeholders of the NSBMC’s unwavering commitment to supporting the education sector.

He emphasized that, through synergy with the Presidency and key education stakeholders, the committee will work to strengthen the nation’s educational foundation and promote sustainable development.
