Muslim faithful have been called upon to reflect on and adopt the values and teachings of the Sokoto Jihad leaders to promote societal progress and unity.
The call was made by Sheikh Muhammadu Bello Abdulrashid Tajaye, a key speaker at a four-day intensive training (Daurah), focused on seven selected books authored by the founding leaders of the Sokoto Jihad movement.
In his closing remarks, Malam Abubakar Sadiq Isah, the Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Council for Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO), explained that the event was part of the 12th Sheikh Usman Bn Fodio Week. It was organized in collaboration with the Sultanate Council and held at the Islamic Education Trust (IET), Sokoto.
According to him, the Daurah aimed to renew the Ummah’s understanding of the sacrifices and enduring legacy of the Sokoto Caliphate leaders in spreading Islam across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Malam Yahaya Muhammadu Boyi, the Sarkin Malaman Sakkwato, praised the initiative, describing it as both timely and essential. He urged Muslims to seek knowledge in both Islamic and Western education to help drive meaningful change in society.
Alhaji Nura Abdullahi Attajiri, Director-General of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, also commended the program. He noted that such initiatives play a vital role in preserving the Islamic heritage and teachings embedded in the Sokoto Jihad history.
He urged participants to implement the lessons learned, not just in theory but in practice, to ensure the desired impact is achieved.
