The President of the United Nigeria Youth Congress, Comrade Nasiru Sulaiman Chamber, has described godfatherism as the greatest obstacle to Nigeria’s political progress.
In an interview with journalists at his office, Nasiru said the persistent influence of political godfathers continues to undermine democracy and youth participation in governance.
He warned that unless this culture is dismantled, Nigeria will remain trapped in outdated political systems with little or no progress.
He lamented how political appointments and elective positions are often handed over to the children and loyalists of political elites, sidelining competent, passionate youths eager to serve and make a difference.
“Look at the National Assembly many were handpicked by powerful individuals and are not delivering results. They simply warm the seats without contributing meaningfully to national development,” he said.
Comrade Nasiru urged Nigerian youths to recognize their power and rise against the dominance of godfather politics.
He called for mass voter registration and active participation in elections, stressing that the only way to bring lasting change is through the ballot.
He concluded by encouraging citizens to renew their PVCs and take charge of the country’s political future.
