The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has formally appealed to Senator Aliyu Wamakko to intervene in the lingering issues between the Union and the Federal Government, citing the need to address the detrimental impact of incessant strikes on Nigeria’s educational system.
Led by Prof. Chris Piwuna, ASUU members visited Senator Wamakko’s residence in Asokoro, Abuja, seeking his mediation in restoring constructive dialogue with the Federal Government.
In a statement Signed and released by SA Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Bashar Abubakar said the union recognizes Wamakko’s vast experience, credibility, and contributions to national development, believing his intervention could be crucial in resolving the dispute.
ASUU emphasized that its appeal was not politically motivated but aimed at achieving lasting solutions to prevent future disruptions and protect students’ academic progress.
In response, Senator Wamakko assured ASUU of his commitment to restoring normalcy. His involvement could be a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s tertiary education history, leading to a permanent resolution, stabilizing public universities, and alleviating socio-economic repercussions of strikes.
