The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted the 2026 budget presentation by Governor Dauda Lawal, calling on the Federal government to suspend the Federal allocations to the state until further notice.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the party Alhaji Yusuf Idris said, Governor Lawal has just presented his third appropriation bill of over N861 billion to the supposed state House of Assembly which he said was full of flaws for deliberations.
Idris said the budget has woefully failed in the dispensation of last year’s budget which he said was also presented in suspicious, unconstitutional and illegal manner.
He said, “Liike last year, the 2025 budget proposal was presented to less than two third of the 24-member House of Assembly which is in gross violation of the nation’s constitution which requires a two third majority on issues bordering budget, impeachment and other related matters”.
“And since the abnormality was not challenged by all but the opposition APC, the governor took it for granted by repeating the same violation today”.
Idris Maintained that in order to avoid questions that would compel necessary response from the governor, the government and the legislature allegedly barred journalists from covering the event which held at the Jibril Bala Yakubu Secretariat conference hall.
He stated that the budget was also conducted away from the state House of Assembly complex, adding that, “It is totally condemnable and an act of dictatorship”.
“Even at the venue there was no President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s portrait, nor the court of arms, nor the governor’s picture except that of the Speaker which is also unconstitutional”.
Idris added that, ahead of the budget presentation, the executive in collaboration with the legislature allegedly suspended all law makers across party line, which they suspected could raise eye brows challenging the budget.
“This situation trimmed the membership to just 10 members to receive the governor and his bill”. Said Idris.
“With the foregoing, therefore, we are calling on the federal government to suspend federal allocation as a first step to the state until the right thing is done”. Concluded Idris.
