The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has officially distanced itself from Alhaji Bello Isiyaku (Keegan), reiterating that he was suspended in September 2022 and no longer represents the party in any capacity.
In a statement signed by the Sokoto State ADC Chairman, Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk, the party clarified that Alhaji Bello was suspended by the national leadership after declaring his gubernatorial ambition ahead of the 2023 elections.
Following his suspension, Hon. Faruk was appointed as the legitimate State Chairman.
Hon. Faruk noted that he represented Sokoto at the ADC emergency mini-convention held in Zaria on September 22, 2022, where Chief Ralph Nwosu’s leadership was reaffirmed and a caretaker transition was initiated, later handing over to the current Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
He warned Bello against using media platforms to portray himself as the party’s representative in Sokoto and accused him of using the party’s name for personal attacks, which, he said, violate the values and constitution of the ADC.
The statement also cautioned media outlets and individuals enabling Bello’s activities to desist from misrepresenting the party’s leadership.
Hon. Faruk emphasized that the ADC stands for dignity, respect, discipline, and service, and will not tolerate misuse of its identity. He concluded by reaffirming the party’s focus on delivering democratic dividends in security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.
