Police Nab Three Suspects Over Shocking Murder of Woman, Six Children in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. Acting under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, a team of crack operatives apprehended the suspects in a sting operation conducted between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.

Police identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all in Kano metropolis.

According to the police, Umar Auwalu, who is a nephew of the deceased housewife and alleged leader of the syndicate, confessed to committing the crime.

He further admitted that the same group had allegedly been involved in other violent attacks in recent times, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.

Items recovered from the suspects include four bloodstained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (locally known as gora), cash allegedly stolen from the scene, and other dangerous weapons. Police said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ activities.

The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their prayers, support, and cooperation. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, ANIPR, MNISMA, FNACSP.
