Youth groups in the North-West under the YERP Naija campaign have called on the National Assembly of Nigeria to retain the provision on mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the final Electoral Act, describing it as critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement issued on January 8, 2026, the youths said the provision, earlier passed by the House of Representatives (Nigeria) in December 2025, would strengthen the credibility of elections and promote public confidence in the country’s democratic process.
The group said electronic transmission of results from polling units would provide a verifiable trail capable of reducing disputes, limiting electoral malpractice and enhancing transparency.
They urged lawmakers to prioritise reforms that ensure every vote cast is accurately recorded and transmitted, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy must continue to evolve in line with integrity, accountability and the will of the people.
