The Kebbi State Police Command has recovered 33 rustled cows and neutralised a suspected bandit following an attempted cattle theft along the Kamba–Kangiwa Road in Dandi Local Government Area.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., when suspected Lakurawa bandits reportedly attacked a farmhouse, rustled livestock, and attempted to escape with the animals.
Police operatives, acting on a distress report, launched a joint operation with the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kamba. The security team trailed the suspects and engaged them, forcing the bandits to abandon the stolen cattle.
During the encounter, one of the bandits was neutralised while another escaped with gunshot injuries. Authorities confirmed that no security personnel were injured during the operation.
All 33 cows were successfully recovered and returned to their rightful owner, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for their swift response and effective collaboration in foiling the attack.
The police also appreciated members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to keep providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
