Gov. Idris Launches FG Food, Nutrition Support for Vulnerable Residents in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris has flagged off the distribution of food and nutrition items to vulnerable populations in kebbi state affected by humanitarian crises.

This is contained in a statement Signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kebbi State and made available to Newsmen on Thursday.

According to the statement, the programme is under the Presidential Initiative for the Provision of Food and Nutrition Assistance.

Speaking at the event held at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, the governor appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the gesture to Kebbi State.

He said: “Kebbi has never had it this good as it is under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This administration has introduced various empowerment programs and initiatives in support of the people, especially the vulnerable population.

“This shows that our President is truly a president for the people- Empowerment upon empowerment, intervention upon intervention.

“Therefore, we have every reason to thank Mr President for his unwavering efforts.”

Idris recalled that Kebbi was the first state to endorse Mr President for another four year tenure, noting that other states subsequently borrowed a leave from the initiative.

The governor expressed appreciation that the gesture was for Kebbi Central District adding that the other senatorial zones would also benefit from similar interventions.

In his remarks, Dr Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, said the occasion was part of President Tinubu’s proactive measures to bring succour to the people.

He said explained that the programme was designed to cushion the effects of flood that affected some farmers as well as assist victims of conflicts and other natural disasters.

The minister listed items to be distributed including rice, beans, millet, fortified food, cocking oil and tomato paste among others.

He appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative as well as Gov. Nasir Idris of kebbi for his support and cooperation toward the successful implementation of the programme.

Tanko-Sununu added that in addition to the food distribution, medicines had been supplied to hospitals across the state as part of presidential support to patients.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr Olubimi Olusanya, said the intervention was not only distribution of food items but also about ensuring inclusiveness and support for vulnerable groups.

He commended the governor for his strong collaboration with the federal government to ensure assistance reaches vulnerable persons in the state.
