The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a graphic circulating online which claims that the Commission announced March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking election to resign from their positions.
In a statement posted in it’s Facebook page on Friday, the electoral body clarified that the information did not originate from the Commission and described the graphic as fake and misleading.
INEC emphasized that it has not issued any announcement fixing March 26 as a resignation deadline for public office holders intending to contest in elections.
The Commission therefore urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of misleading citizens.
INEC further stated that all official announcements, updates, and election-related information are released only through its verified communication channels, including its official website, verified social media platforms, and formal press statements.
The Commission also encouraged citizens to always verify election-related information through its official platforms to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and pledged to continue providing accurate and timely information to the public regarding electoral matters.
