
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Sokoto State, Professor A. L. Ala, has directed all principals of public secondary schools across the state to immediately suspend the collection of fees.
This is contained in a statement Signed by the Public Relations Officer Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Ibrahim Mohammad Iya and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
According to the statement the directive follows the setting up of a committee by the Honourable Commissioner to review concerns raised regarding fees charged in schools. The suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome and recommendations of the committee.
Professor Ala emphasized that under no circumstances should any parent, guardian, or student be asked to pay the following fees at this time:
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Levy
Admission Fee
Testimonial Fee
Statement of Result
MSS Fee
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Statement of Result/Certificate
Answer Sheets
Screening Form
Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) Fees
NECO/NABTEB/NBAIS Certificate Fees
The statement therefore advised All principals to comply strictly with this directive, nothing that Any violation will attract immediate administrative action.
