The Kebbi State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening tertiary education through sustained investments in human capital development and institutional growth.
This was disclosed on Thursday at a Press briefing addressed by the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Isa Abubakar Tunga, at the Conference Hall of the Ministry in Birnin Kebbi.
The Commissioner announced that in line with the vision of the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), the government has approved and released substantial funds to support students of Kebbi State origin studying Medicine, Pharmacy, and other allied courses in foreign universities.
He revealed that the Governor approved the release of ₦177,349,064.06 for registration, tuition, upkeep, visa extension, and internship for 28 Kebbi State indigenes studying at Subharti and GD Goenka Universities in India.
Similarly, the sum of ₦117,686,000 was released as upkeep allowances for 25 Kebbi State indigenes studying Medicine in seven universities in Egypt.
According to the Commissioner, the Governor also approved the release of ₦70,216,078.08 as financial assistance to Kebbi State students studying Pharmacy, Medical & Allied Sciences at Jaipur National University and GD Goenka University in India.
Furthermore, an additional ₦349,730,000 was released for registration, tuition, and upkeep allowances for 35 Kebbi State indigenes proceeding to Ethiopia to study Medicine and Pharmacy.
Hon. Tunga stated that these approvals bring the total amount released to the Ministry for Higher Education in January 2026 to ₦714,981,142.14.
He described the gesture as a clear demonstration of Governor Idris’ passion for educational advancement and equal opportunity for all.
The Commissioner also announced that Governor Nasir Idris has approved the appointment of Nurs. Dr. Muhammed Murtala Musa as the pioneer Provost of the Kauran Gwandu College of Midwifery Sciences, Ambursa.
He remarked that the Ministry for Higher Education remained fully committed to upholding the standards and reform agenda of the present administration, aimed at repositioning Kebbi State’s tertiary education sector to meet global best practices.
