The Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NASS), Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), organized its first-ever inter-state sports competition under the leadership of the Sports Director, Mursheen Kurya, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The competition ran from 7th to 15th February 2026, marking a historic event within the Faculty of Agriculture. Six states participated in the tournament: Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Oyo.
Representing the various states were:
Adebayo Mubarak, a 500-level student from the Department of Animal Science (Kwara State);
Muhsin Kurya, a 500-level student from the Department of Animal Science (Zamfara State);
Rouf Abeeb, a 500-level student from the Department of Animal Science (Oyo State);
Gidan Madi (Sokoto State);
Aliyu Zakariyya, a 400-level Fisheries student (Kebbi State);
Aboki, a 400-level Fisheries student (Niger State).
Gidan Madi, Mubarak, Aboki, and Muhsin advanced to the semi-finals. In the semi-final matches, Sokoto lost 0–2 to Kwara, while Niger scored 1 against Zamfara, who secured 2 goals.
The final match was played between Kwara State and Zamfara State, with Kwara emerging victorious in a 2–1 win, bringing the first-semester Faculty of Agriculture inter-state competition to a successful close.
Speaking on the initiative, Sports Director Mursheen Kurya explained the motivation behind the competition:
“We’ve never had an inter-state competition at the faculty level before in UDUS. I decided to give it a try and become the first to organize it. I wanted to see the benefits it would bring, especially in fostering unity among us.”
He added that the competition revealed a strong sense of unity and uncovered hidden talents within the faculty.
Muhsin also expressed appreciation to the NASS executives and all participating players for their collective efforts in making the competition a success.
One of the players, Abubakar Mutiullahi, said:
“Kwara emerged victorious, but above all, we stand together and celebrate as one united NASS–UDUS.”
The historic sporting event not only crowned a champion but also strengthened unity and camaraderie among agricultural students in the faculty.
