North-West youths under the YERP Naija campaign have called on the National Assembly of Nigeria to retain the provision on mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the final Electoral Act.
The call was contained in a press statement issued on January 8, 2026, in which the youths said the provision, earlier passed by the House of Representatives (Nigeria) in December 2025, was critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to the group, the credibility of elections remains fundamental to national stability and development, stressing that electronic transmission of results would provide a clear and verifiable trail capable of minimising disputes and strengthening public trust in election outcomes.
They noted that mandatory electronic transmission of results from polling units would help promote transparency, reduce electoral malpractice and restore confidence in the country’s electoral system.
The youths further urged lawmakers to prioritise reforms that enhance transparency and ensure that every vote cast is accurately recorded and transmitted, insisting that Nigeria’s democracy must continue to evolve in line with integrity, accountability and the will of the people.
